Down with the King

“Down with the King” is a 18x24 still life composed of various objects from my Art 5 class. I wanted to construct something exciting and intriguing that anyone can view differently, something to tell a story, using colors and diverse items to design a still image of life. I used vibrant colors and dark shades to highlight the drama and to bring attention to my painting. I made this still life using acrylic paint on canvas coupled with graphite and a gel gloss medium, applying these with paint brushes and pencils. I used many painting techniques, including a wash on many different parts of the painting, splattering & dabbing techniques on the pot holding “the King,” a dry brush on the environment surrounding the characters, and much more. “Down with the King” is very eye-catching and compelling. I feel like the dramatic colors and pitch-black eyes draw the audience in and then urge the observer to investigate and look more at the details and significance of the painting. I am very proud of how this artwork turned out and how the colors and objects operate together to create a story.
