Fossils and Florals

“Fossils and Florals” is a 12" x 9" still life using oil paints, one of my first and completed oil paintings. I challenged myself in this painting in more ways than one, notably with a new and very different medium. I mixed the colors and then played with the things I could accomplish with oil paints, the texture I could achieve, blending strategies, the shadows, and more. I struggled with creating rough surfaces and lines, simply figuring out how to clean my brushes, and creating new layers without blending with other parts of the piece. Although this was a challenge, I loved making this piece and using a new medium, so I included it. I wanted to show my experimentation and observational abilities and how I can have fun in art.
